How to get rid of infected bug bites?
All summer, I've had dozens of bug bites (i think) all over my legs. They aren't anywhere else, just here, and they seem to easily become infected. It might be because I have horses and my barn/pasture is right next to a creek. I usually am in shorts when I go down there. I've taken antibiotics once, but it didn't make much difference. I also traveled to the UK and Europe in June, and the bug bites (or whatever they are) started appearing just a few weeks before we left. If anyone knows of any remedies or guidance to get rid of these suckers, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
corrections…**i really don't think its from bed bugs, the bites come from the pasture because I am the only one down there, and the only one that has bites, and i wash my sheets once a week. also, the bites came before the trip. thanks
actually it sounds like chiggers. I get them when the pasture hasn't been cut ..I have horses too. use an antibiotic ointment, on the ones you have that are infected and on new "bites" put a small drop of clear nail polish on them it will kill the chigger and it won't fester.Spray yourself down with "OFF", or another bug repellent that contains DEET. before going in your pasture. Its also a good idea to wear jeans when you are around the horse pasture and barn. It will help keep chiggers and ticks off of your legs.
How to treat ant bites on my hamster?
Our little hamster has some bites on his shoulder, side and nose. The hair is missing in clumps at the bite sites. We've had a problem with ants getting into the food dish before. I think they got ahold of our hamster. The bites aren't bleeding, but you can see the dried blood. How can I treat him? He's scratching alot, which also makes me think they are ant bites. Can I give the hamster benedryl? What can I do to make him feel better and help him heal?
Thanks for your help and suggestions!
No benadryl for the hamster. Why do you seem so sure that these are ant bites? How would ants get to the hamster. Whatever the irritation is, I think you should clean the area and get some hotspot lotion from the pet store. Dilute it with some water (use 1/2 of the lotion and 1/2 water) and put on the area. This should help with the itching. Then keep watch of the area. May take a couple days to get better.
How do I tell the difference between mosquito bites and flea bites?
The other day my son woke up with a few bites on his chest/belly and several on his shoulder. They're kind of bit and red. The ones on his shoulder are in a line, but the ones on his belly are kind of spread out.
We've had trouble with fleas last summer, but we bombed and haven't seen any sign of them since. Now, halfway through summer, my son has some bites on him. We did find a mosquito flying around inside, so maybe that was it?
flea bites look alot like chicken pox . I was attacked by alot of fleas in my grandfathers old farm house that was empty. They were waiting on a meal . It was bad .
How do I treat my dog for mosquito bites?
My dog has been getting alot of mosquito bites all over his body. I try to keep him indoors when i'm not with him but he likes to run in the yard and ends up coming in with more mosquito bites. I can see the red spots over his body and I know it bothers him because he rubs his body on the carpet to ease the itch. Is it safe to use products like "After Bite" and insect repellent on my dog? I feel bad for him because I know he's uncomfortable, so I give him a bath every night.
Advantix and similar products repel mosquitos, and is a simple once-a-month treatment.
Mosquitos carry things like heartworm and West Nile, so your dog NEEDS to be protected from both the mosquitoes AND the diseases they transmit. The itching from the bites is the least of your dog's worries.
Bathing him every night will only dry out his skin terribly and make him itch MORE.
Is it possible to have something living on your skin that bites you?
Ok, so for about three months I've though I had bedbugs. Two weeks ago the exterminator came and set up traps to catch the suckers, but we haven't caught anything yet. Also, I went home to see my family for the weekend and I got bitten there as well.
There haven't been any signs of bedbugs (no excrement, no blood stains on the sheets). My cat sleeps in the same bed that I do but he does not get bitten. So I'm wondering, is there something living on my skin that could be biting me?
The bites look just like misquito bites, but they shrink in size after a day or two and look like flea bites. I can't feel myself getting bitten, but immediatly after I itch. I get bitten durring the day (but this could be because of bedbugs in my clothes?) as well as at night, but no one visiting my apartment has been bitten.
I'm at a complete loss, but I've been getting bites for almost 3 months now and I'm at my wits end. If you have any insight, please share!
These are actual bites which are the size of buttons and insanely itchy. I've been bitten by fleas before and never had this reacton, also I feel if it was fleas other people who come to my apartment would be bitten. The reason I think it's something on my skin is because of the fact the traps haven't caught anything at all. I guess I'll make an apointment with an allergist to find out what could be the problem.
I went through that many years ago when my parents gave me an old mattress. You have to get rid of the mattress and fumigate your place and wash all your clothes and bed linens in hot water. You may have to scrub down your place periodically with bleach in hot water as well to dust off surfaces and get of them. You can get rid of them.
How can we stop puppy bites with a 7 month old pitt?
My pup is 7 months old and we got her at 6 months. She is a pittbull but shows no violence towards our children or cats. The biting is mainly playful puppy bites that are starting to hurt. We have tried several things and just can't get her to quit. I want her to stop before someone really gets hurt. Any suggestions?
Play Biting is Attention Seeking Behavior. This is far too common in pit bulls, and the reason so many adolescent pits find themselves in the shelter.
To modify this undesirable behavior, first you need patience and understanding that your pup is entering the dog world's version of "terrible two's".
Practice NILF (if unsure what NILF is, research via web) training with her immediately. Make her work for everything, including your attention. She should be calm and sitting before you even pet her. When she is mouthing, do NOT even recognize that she is next to you, turn around, cross your arms and walk away. Addressing this behavior in some dogs, by grabbing a snout or telling them 'no', often times becomes a game to them. Bad attention is still attention. However when you simply walk away, the dog is left wondering why the attention ended.
I do this with the rescued adolescent Pit Bull I am fostering. She hasn't even been here 2 weeks and we have seen a HUGE difference in her jumping and mouthing.
Ignore the bad behavior by walking away, and reward the good with lots of treats and praise, it won't be long before your dog understands what is acceptable.
