What's the best way to speed healing of broken bones?

Are there any significant dietary or other approaches to enhancing broken bone healing?

From an internal standpoint, focusing on improved nutrition can help improve all forms of tissue healing.

In contrast, reports have been written about starving children in developing nations where a broken bone may take years to set.

Avoiding processed and refined foods will help because your body must extract extra minerals from your bones to counter the effects of eating these foods. By focusing on a whole food diet, you'll be able to improve the net benefit of your diet's impact on the healing process.

As far as food choices go, the best source of calcium comes from the same place all those land giants get it from: green leafy vegetables.

A supplement of additional Vitamin D may also be beneficial. There has been a recent call to increase the RDA of Vitamin D as over 20 years of specific research has concluded that 200 IU is too little. Tests have been done with a daily intake of over 10,000 IU and no toxic risks has been observed, so you could easily choose to supplement with over 1,000 IU and the published literature suggests that you should be fine.

Anyone who thinks the body just hums along at a constant rate, which isn't affected by diet, simply has no idea what they're talking about.

Does having prior broken bones disqualify you from joining a branch of the military?

I broke my arm almost 2 years ago playing football. During surgery the doctor added a plate and 6 screws into my bone helping it stay stable. I have full range of motion and full strength in the arm still, the only bad thing is a little sensitivity around the scar area. Now the metal is removeable it doesn't need to stay in there permanently, but I'de like to know if I can still join the military. Any insight would be great. Thanks!

as long as it works ok, itll be fine, i fractured my radius and ulna ( the bones going to the wrist ) twice before i went in

Does broken bones heal when in a coma?

I gotta know if broken bones heal when a person is in a coma. Does it take longer to heal or does it even heal at all?

Broken bones will still heal in a coma. All the natural body process’s continue the person just is not conscious (awake). So their bones will heal just the same at the same speed, etc. They may even have the added benefit of not moving a lot and hindering the healing process.

How do they remove pins from your broken bones?

My husband broke his hand and had 5 pins placed in him to help the healing. I was just curious if anyone has ever had bones “pinned” back together. The pins are the kind that stick out of the skin, and I know that they pull them out with basically a pair of pliers, but do they numb the hand before they proceed?

I broke my arm when i was younger and had 2 pins put in it… and I was freaked out bc they took them out without putting me to sleep.. but they just numbed my arm and took them out. I didnt feel anything but a little tension. But… the numbing shot.. was probably the most painful shot ive ever had….bc they put so much solution in there.. it like stretched my skin bc it had no where to go..so id be ready for that at least

I broke two bones in my arm a month ago from a fall in a football game. Im 19 years old so it hope it doesn't take long .It was extremly painfull during the first couple weeks. I was taking 2 tylonel 3s every 3 hours. My arm is in a cast and the pain has totally gone away. I broke my humerus bone and 1 bone in my forearm. My cast is supposed to be off in 4 weeks. How long can it take to heal ? so that I can start playing again and going to school because I really miss all the hotties from my college. Thankyou.

It takes about 4- 6 weeks to heal, but will feel funny for about a year or more.

Is a low grade fever a common side effect from broken bones?

I broke 3 bones in my foot 8 weeks ago (surgery to repair and pins are still in for another week.) During my recovery I have been running a low grade fever (99.1-99.9) almost daily. Does anyone know if this is normal?

It is defiantly normal, especially since there are foreign bodies (pins) in you currently and you just had surgery.

Take it easy and I hope you feel better soon.

How come broken bones that have healed already feel sore when bad weather is to come?

I broke my 4th metatarsal over a year ago and it feels sore before every bad storm. Also my teacher said when she was younger she broke all of the bones in her hands and now she knows when bad weather is coming when her bones feel sore in her hands. I just want to know why do those bones feel sore before a storm?

unfortunately following fractures arthritis possibly sets in thus the post pain when damp or cold weather, try over the counter homely remedies such as anti inflammatory creams/tabs they will help another good source would be infra red treatment.
try a hot compress/hot water bottle, some of the simpler forms are effective
