How can I safely give my Husky and Pit Bull scrapes off my plate while I'm eating, with out them fighting?
I've had my husky for 11 years, and my pitt for 1 month. Today I gave my husky a taste of my eaten potatoes. Then beside my husky came my pitt bull. I was going to feed them back and fourth with a spoon. They then started to fight, like they didn't want to share. How can I give them scrapes off my plate without them fighting?
Never feed your dogs while you are eating. They should not be fed until after you have completed your meal and any scrap you want to give them should be placed in their bowls.
Dogs do fine on people food. Mine gets it all the time and my vet couldn't be happier.

you should def. wait to give them scraps. If you want to do it, wait till you are done eatting and then get 2 dishes and put the dogs in sepreat rooms so they dont see each other and fight
References :
First off you aren't supposed to feed your dogs table scraps. Especially potatoes. These can be dangerous to dogs and cats. So to keep them from fighting over your scraps, stop feeding them scraps. For their sake. It's not a good habit to form. It's unhealthy. Dog's weren't made to eat people food.

dont feed them while you are eating.
This is a dominancy thing.. as the alpha, you give out the food, but they each want the food coming from you! They are going to fight over the "reward" that is being given by the alpha!
Wait until you are done eating, then give them the scraps separatly.
There is nothing wrong with giving scraps as long as its done in moderation. Your dog shouldnt be getting a huge bowl full of fats and greasy stuff, however a few bites is not any worse than you having some junk food now and then.

well heres an idea
DONT FEED THEM SCRAPS
especially not at the table!
if you want to give them something put it in two different bowls on the floor in two different areas
References :
You do not…first of all that is disgusting, that spoon goes in YOUR mouth, not the dog's, second, you do not feed dogs while you eat, they wait til you are done and then they can eat their food out of their dishes. That will keep your pack in order, leaders eat first while lesser ranked members wait.
Of course they will fight, they have no idea who is in charge of the pack. Hope I helped!!

Well I know this sounds like a smart answer but use both hands. One for one and the other for the other. Also train them to share things. Also remember that in your husky's eyes, he's your baby and he's been around longer than that other guy. So he's going to be a bit selfish. Try to teach the pitt that the husky will always come first and then he will get his bite. Try it with treats. Give the husky one then the pitt, etc etc.
FYI, feeding dogs human food isn't good. Good luck training these two to get along and share.

you should never feed dogs human food anyhow not only does it teach them bad habits but also is unhealthy
References :
Have them both sit or lie down a few feet apart before you feed them the scraps. Only reward good behaviour. If they don't sit and behave politely, no goodies.
Check out the book "Feeling Outnumbered" by Patricia McConnell and Karen London (amazon.com) for good advice on living with more than one dog.

I have three dogs including a formerly food-aggressive Great Pyr, and I give them all healthful table scraps (no onions, grapes/raisins, or other no-nos of course) AFTER I finish eating and cleaning up the kitchen. It's often their reward for staying at their stations while I eat instead of begging at the table.
ok u could not feed them off the plate then they wont fight.or if u really want to feed them off ur plate if they start fighting the stand up and break them up
References :
My dogs eat table food but you have to be careful not to give them certain foods like for instance Onions, grapes, apple cores, choc., cooked bones. These can harm and kill your pets. Secondly an 11 year old dog has no chance if a younger dog attacks it why take that chance? At the end of your meal decide what you want to share with them , put it in separate bowls and place them away from each other. There is NO SAFE WAY to share if the dogs or dog is aggressive. DO not take a chance!

it's not a good idea to give your dogs ANY scarps
References :
Never feed them from the table. If you must feed them scaps, put them in their dishes. Your 11 year old should be fed first, as he is the oldest and should be treated as the dominant animal in the pack therefore he eats first.
It's best to give them dog food, people food is not healthy. But there are plenty of dog treats that you can give them that won't make them sick.

I have a girl pit bull (Honey), and a male deer dog (Jack),
and they have gotten along always but when I feed them I have to put them in their kennels because they will fight over food. Now they cuddle and play and love on each other all other times except when food is involved, its just dog nature.

feeding them scraps is cool……as long as you dont do it too much. and u should NOT do it while your at the table. beging is a bad habbit. yell "no begging!" and if they leave u alone reward them when your done eating by giving them some scraps on two diffrent plates.
References :
You should never feed your dogs off your plate while you are eating, you being the pack leader should eat first. Feeding dogs off your plate tells the dog they are equal to you and they won't see you as a leader, also it teaches them to beg at the table which isn't very pleasant when you have guests over.
If you want to feed your dogs table scraps then while you are eating put the food you want to give to the dogs off to the side, once you are done eating you can divide the left overs into 2 piles and then scrape it into each dogs dish.

boy this is weird, i have a 12 year old male wolf& husky and a 6 month old pit female , what are the odds!never one one them get fed of the table, only after were done ,my whole family, that is, and than we put them on there food wen were done and pt food dishes on the flood we never let them just get food for any reson, they have to earn it by laiding sitting staying, and i mean to be doing one of them before receving any, and there shouldnt be any fighting because that is food agression, and i have alot of children and that dont go, have your children are you hand feed them so you let them know that thats a bad behavior fighting over anything.

I wouldn't set a stage for a fight. I only feed my little dog- dogfood.

They obviously both feel they own you. They are showing dominance toward you and being food possesive. The Husky is the ruler of your house so he will show that to the pitt. Why not try throwing the scraps away. Human food is terrible for a dog. Not only will it cause tartar quicker, it will lead to overfeeding, refusal of dog food, and if the dogs get too much of the wrong foods it will be visiting the vet quite often. The problem with feeding scraps is is they usually contain high percentages of fats and carbs. And in some cases you can poisen them, such as with milk, chocolate, and onions to name a few.

You're asking for trouble in more ways than one by doing that. Okay with one dog, very tough with two. They don't want to share, each dog wants it all, and your Husky will see the new dog as the intruder and upstart. If you really want to give them leftovers, put them in the dog dishes. And make both dogs sit down and wait until the bowls are down.

First things is first.. you have to establish that you are the Alpha. people with dogs that treat them like humans should not haev dogs.. they truly get what they are asking for. I have never taken my dog to training and I have an Amstaff Terrier, she knows that i’m the alpha and she is my PET. She isn’t my infant the I would start feeding her with a spoon. You people who think that they’re pet is a person they should get they’re head checked.. as far as babydoll_7884; dogs arent meant to eat dog food if you think about it.. before there was “dog food” people were feeding their dogs table scrapes and there is nothign wron with that. Wild dogs dont touch dog food ever and they live long healthy lives, hell, they can probably out run any home dog on the planet. remember people dogs are DOGS not humans. to get your dog to listen to you, you must discipline the way familes have, (for thousands and thousands of years) Spank. I’m not talking about beating your dog up cause you want to do it. but when they do something wrong, bring a belt and I personally garrantee that they will not only behave but love and respect you forever and you wont run into problems like them fighting over your food.
Tell me what you're thinking...
