Neenee asked:

I’m pretty sure I know what caused it too. Italian Greyhounds are fragile, but Pip has always been really good and hopping on and off the bed. But today I came home from errands and he came down the hall with a limp like he injured his front left paw. The vet’s not in right now so I splinted it and now he’s curled comfortably in his bed with a treat and a blanket. How long do I wait before I take him to the vet? I don’t want to have to pay a ton of money for my vet to tell me “Just let him rest”.

He doesn’t seem to be wincing or whining at all, and he’s not exactly a tough dog normally.

Also, signed the cast with the names of my other dogs. Too cute.

I heard recently that chondroitin can cause blood sugar levels to rise….could that cause problem with diabetes in smaller breeds?

Dog Lover asked:

Anyone please give me some ideas. I don’t think its broken becase he doesn’t cry out in pain when u touch it but he won’t put his full weight on it and when he tries he falls over. We called our vet she is not avaiable and can’t not reach her we tried another vet that has a 24hr number but that vet from what we’ve told him said it don’t sound broken just to make him comfortable as possible. SO im at loss. Any suggestions to help him ease the discomfort or help him out for the night till morning so we can get him to our vet in the morning.
We have been icing it he does seem to want to put it down a little bit but when he tries he falls over. He’s 15yrs old and Im just so scared he did something more. But like I said he don’t cry when u touch it. There is a little swelling it seems. But he allows the ice on it so just keep up with that and try heat too? There are no other local 24hr emergency vets close. So I know we’ll have to wait out the night and see what happens in the morning and we will be taking him in right away in the morning.
I thank everyone for your suggestions. I feel bad the way it is for playing with him and having this happen on top of how old he is makes me feel so guilty of playing with him tonight. I just hope its only a sprain, just seems like that only cause he will let me rub or touch it don’t cry or anything. could be outta joint i don’t know.?? Been dealing with some other issues with him and on top now he can’t walk so please no harsh words im just so scared i don’t wanna lose him on top of everything tonight.

Dog’s broken legErika C asked:

the dog tripped down the last two stairs in the house. and he was freaking out at first and screaming. before he could not even elevate it on his own. now he can. but he still seems to be in pain. we dont have the money up front to take him to the vet im a bit worried. what are some signs of a broken bone vs just a sprain? also there is no swelling and there is no discoloration. he just seems to be really uncomfortable moving it.
